Misha in Poland
Polen 16-10-2005
"Off to the country of the thousand lakes, Poland…The moments I enjoy most during our trip, are the moments I spend alone. This doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy the company of my fellow travellers, but that’s just different. It’s so great to indulge in all the unknown things a city like Warsaw has to offer and to reflect upon that. To walk up to people and talk with them and to find out how they live their lives. What they feel, think and want. And that might be the most beautiful thing of it all; every street corner offers a possibility to meet a special and interesting person. Back home, in the Netherlands, it might take you three college years to get close to someone and become friends, whereas on this journey it seems to happen all the time. Like that one evening, when it was almost dawn, and I was sitting with some squatters in their squat. Agnes, Marian, Artur and Piot; all four confirmed anarchists and members of the organisation ‘Food no Bombs’. The idea was that I would interview them about their initiative. Instead, we dismissed the interview after five minutes. No problem, because we drifted off to one spirited but fascinating discussion after the other. About the lives of a bunch of squatters, about government intervention which restricts you in everything you do, about young people in Poland and their ideals."
